Description Technical Specs
The Ruger Mini-14 Target in Stainless Steel and Hogue Overmolded Stock, Ruger Part Number 5828, is available used from Bishop Ammunition and Firearms. This rifle was used initially in the development of 5.56 Nato/223 Remington ammunition by our company. Total round count in the rifle 310 rounds. As we have gone to a pressure trace and other ballistic testing equipment this incredible rifle is now a safe queen and looking for a new home. This rifle comes with thirteen 10 round magazines and three 5 round magazines. The 10 round magazines sell new for $40.00 each alone!!!! If you bought the magazines alone you would spend over $520.00 just for the magazines. We are including them!!!

The Ruger Mini-14 has been around since 1974 and has been used around the world in police and military applications along.  This rifle comes with a thicker and longer barrel which adds 3 1/2 inches to the standard Mini-14 Ranch Rifle's 18 1/2 inches and nearly 3 pounds in weight.

The Mini-14 Target Rifle retains the fixed-piston gas system and the rotary bolt with dual locking lugs Ruger borrowed from the M1 Garand.  The receiver is investment-cast receiver and L-shaped charging handle are in matte-stainless finish. Ruger has designed scope bases integral to the receiver.

In designing the Ruger Mini-14 Target, the major improvement in the rifle is the barrel.  This rifle uses a heavy, hammer-forged, stainless steel barrel that is .78 inch in diameter where it emerges from the gas block, with an additional 3 1/2 inches of length. The Ruger Mini-14's rifling is in a 1:9 right hand twist and will stabilize all but the heaviest .224-caliber match bullets.

In addition to the match barrel, the Mini-14 Target uses a 4 1/2" long, harmonic-dampening weight. This 3/16 inch thick sleeve slips over the barrel, and four Allen-head screws keep it in place. A series of helical grooves on the barrel's surface allow the position of the harmonic dampener to be changed by turning it after loosening the attachment screws. Rotating the harmonic dampener clockwise moves it toward the receiver, while turning it counterclockwise shifts it toward the muzzle.

The harmonic dampener is used to "tune" the rifle to the ammunition.  By moving the harmonic dampener of the rifle in and out the shooter is able to dial in the best grouping they can achieve with the rifle and the ammunition they are using.  Barrel harmonics, the vibration of the barrel during firing, can greatly affect point of impact and group size. Also the functions of the rile in it's functioning from the firing pin striking the primer through the bullet's contact with the rifling as it travels through the bore all produce vibrations that are transmitted to the barrel and this affects the point of impact. What the harmonic balancer does is reduce these vibrations even before the bullet has exited the bore.
