The major cause of delay at this time is the supply of new Rugar/Marlin base 1895 rifles or obtaining a donor Marlin 1895 rifle chambered in 45-70. We can now convert any older Marlin 1895 chambered in 45-70, which will lower the total build price. Also if you want the tactical rifle look, introduced at Shot Show 2023, this will add approximately $400 to the price due to the additional cost of those pieces. The Bishop Ammunition & Firearms 458 SOCOM 1895 GBL Lever Action rifle was designed specifically for those situations where an AR-15 rifle is either not permitted for hunting, while riding the range hunting feral hogs, or for those that want something completely different. This rifle was the lever action which the "experts" insisted could not be made. Based on the Marlin 1895 GBL we start with a 45-70 rifle and deburr and polish all moving parts. An upgraded trigger is installed, along with a match air gauged 16" barrel and muzzle brake in stainless steel. We have re-engineered the bolt assembly to our specifications for 458 SOCOM only and installed a one piece firing pin. Built from the ground up, it's not a modified Marlin bolt. Additional modifications have been made to the action for timing and feeding of the 458 SOCOM cartridge. This rifle is NOT available as a kit and the individual parts are NOT available separately as each rifle is hand-made, hand-fitted and custom tuned. The result is a butter smooth action, an approximately 3 pound trigger pull that breaks like glass and is one of the finest lever action rifles available for the money. All our rifles come with a locking tactical case at no extra charge and the XS Sight System sights are included as well.

The sight system used on the 458 SOCOM 1895 GBL is the XS Sight Systems Lever Rail Ghost Ring WS - Marlin 1895. This features a large light-gathering rear ghost ring and high-visibility front post sight for fast sight acquisition during day or low-light conditions. the rear ghost ring is fully adjustable for windage and elevation. The one-piece front sight has a easy-to-use .100" wide, white-line post and the rail accepts either Picatinny or Weaver-style mounts. The extra long design allows for scope mounting directly over the receiver, or forward over the barrel. This allows the use of intermediate eye relief optics or red-dot sights.
